Associated Imagery

As imagery is the very foundation for tattoos, I felt some kind of connection or appliance of imagery within the logo/branding would be neccassary.

I decided to look into imagery and iconography that related to the briefs nautical theme. Common connections to this include:

  • waves
  • boat
  • anchor
  • paddles
  • water
  • Sealife

Basing my imagery research upon these categories I was able to find signs and shapes that were relatable and categorised within this nautical theme.

‘High Seas Ink’

The company I have chose to create a corporate identity for is the Shoreditch based tattoo parlour ‘High Seas Ink’. This company is planning on furthering its branding identity to be considered as a National chain.

The company’s name itself emits a nautical sea theme, that has a sense of individuality and prestige. In my opinion it also is aiming to target a primarily male based audience, although arguably can be and should be considered as a unisex brand.

From researching into existing London based tattoo parlours all have this unique and original image, however these current brands are single parlours that don’t have a national presence. One example I have looked into is the company ‘Cloak and Dagger’.

I decided to look into the area of London that the company originates from to get a sense of its background and roots that the company originates from. Timeout London describes the area of Shoreditch as:

“Some say Shoreditch has had its day, that London’s trendy brigade have moved on. If you go to Brick Lane Market, though, it doesn’t look that way. The weird and wonderfully dressed hordes keep coming to the rough triangle made up by Old Street, Great Eastern Street and Shoreditch High Street, packing into ramshackle bars and independent shops. Despite the spread of affluence, much of the area maintains its original gritty, urban edge; many of the walls and shop fronts are plastered with graffiti. Of course, for many the grime is all part of the appeal – if you want a big garden and posh schools, move to Muswell Hill.”

Fonts

After researching into existing tattoo brands and logos, it was prevalent that fonts are one of the key elements in branding and promoting their image. One reoccurring style of font that kept reappearing was calligraphy. I chose to look into the fonts that are available on adobe illustrator to experiment.

Corporate Identity Branding

For this assessment we have been given the task to create a corporate branding identity for a chosen company from the examples we have been given. Branding plays a huge role in representing an institution, so it is essential that the design of it is done right and seamlessly.

BRANDING (AT ITS VERY CORE) : is the visual communication of an entity that speaks for the company or product.

When forming a corporate identity package I shall need to consider various elements and rules of design. A few of these elements include:

  • Font/ Typeface
  • Colour Palette
  • Logo
  • Simplicity
  • Memorable
  • Relevance

Branding should effectively portray the company’s ethos and values subtlety, and have a continuous and constant image/identity upon all platforms and products. This gives the audience an impression of authenticity and reliability of a trustworthy brand.

Transcending elements

In order to relate and connect all my layouts together, I utilized both shape and colour elements that transcends across all layouts. One shape in particular was the repetitive use of the hexagon that I’ve used within background and foreground.  Phone layout General Relativity - CopyA2 Poster General Relativity Full - CopyGeneral Relativity Infograph - Copy
